The device that serves to straighten the teeth and adjust the bite to the normal position is called a fixed or orthodontic prosthesis. The fixed prosthesis has abutments, figures and ligatures, and with their help the necessary force is created which brings the movements of the teeth and bones to an ideal position. Setting the braces takes from 45 minutes to an hour and a half. After the braces are set, pain or discomfort may occur until the teeth get used to the change. Locks do not damage teeth. What can harm them is poor and irregular oral hygiene. Visits to the dentist are mandatory every 4-6 weeks. How long the braces are worn is individual and depends on the bite anomaly. It usually takes 18-24 months for full effect. It is never too late to put on a braces, whether you are an adolescent or a person in your mature years.
